The BMPT-72 "Terminator-2" was first presented at the 2013 "Russia Arms Expo", as a conversion of the T-72 into Tank support combat vehicles. It had a higher degree of commonality with the base tank, in this case being T-72, than the first version, a crew of three instead of five, and enhanced armor for the ATGM launchers. The modernization aimed to improve vehicle survivability and reduce operational costs. As of 2022, only the Algerian Armed Forces have the "Terminator-2" in service, with three units.
