Project "Screen-1985"

Tank UGC

In 1985, during a scheduled maintenance and clearance of the underground bunkers in Stepnogorsk, the abandoned Sector 12 generated an unexpected system log. Behind a double blast door, military personnel discovered a German Tiger II heavy tank, originally captured by Soviet forces in 1945 and covertly transported to the Kazakh SSR for depleted uranium armor plating experiments.Perestroika-era Soviet engineers deemed its stock armor obsolete against modern HEAT countermeasures. The tank’s physical firewall was completely overhauled at a local mechanical plant: the turret and hull sides were heavily up-armored with custom welded, dark-gray monolithic steel screens. Thus, the Tiger II E (Screened) was born—an indestructible, uranium-hardened phantom of the steppes, built to withstand total structural collapse on the battlefield.
